A Rod For Sale and Web Updates September 3, 2012
The aforementioned rod has sold.  Thanks for the interest!

I'm also starting to do some long overdue website updates.  I'm going to list a few bamboo spinning rod tapers as well as a few tapers for rectangular quads which I've been experimenting with this summer and really like.  Keep an eye on the blog and home page for the status on these updates.

I hope everyone had a great summer and has an ever better fall!
Back! For now... April 30, 2012
I'm back from the fishing trip and am going to be working long hours until the 14th at which time I'm going to head back down to the Situk for another short trip.  We had such a great time in April that a couple of us figured we'd do another few days on the river in May.  I'll be gone again from midday on the 14th and returning late on the 19th.

I'll also get some Situk photos posted sometime in the next few weeks as I get time to assemble and clean them up.

In the meantime, I'm in the shop working on rods and blanks and available if you want to get in touch.
Gone Fishin' April 13, 2012
Rather than doing an email auto-response I thought this would be a good place to put up the notice that I'll be out of town and completely off the grid and unreachable from Saturday, April 14 through Tuesday, April 24.  No cell.  No email.  Just a weather radio and a satellite phone for emergencies. :)

Its time once again for our annual trip to the Situk to harass steelhead. It should be an especially interesting trip this year as there is still over 70" of snow on the ground. Here is a photo of the cabin where we are going to be staying (taken 4/10):

Fortunately for those that are leaving now, one of our group went in early and has already shoveled out the entrance and the outhouse.

Please feel free to email or leave a phone message if you have any questions or need to get in touch.  I'll reply to everyone as soon as I get back.

For those of you waiting on rods or blanks, this is going to be my only trip of the spring/summer so I'll be working on rods tirelessly when I return.  Thanks for your patience!

NEW 6'3" Young Midge Quad For Sale 03/13/2012
I just finished a brand new 6'3" 4 weight 2/2 quad based on a Paul Young Midge taper. Specific details can be found on the rod's For Sale page.  Get it now at $200 off my regular 2/2 Quad price.  Photos will be available on the 14th.

I will also have a 7' 4 weight 2/2 quad based on a Dickerson 7012 finished early next week.  You can see its details here.
Hats! 02/15/2012
I finally was able to get some more hats in stock. Khaki wasn't an option this time around so I went with the old standby Forest Green and then chose a nice blue color that wasn't too bright or too dark. They are still $20 each w/ free shipping so head on over to the Hats Page if you'd like to own one of these stylish headpieces.

Rushing into the 20th Century... August 16, 2011
Not that I'm terribly happy about it but I figured it was time to step up, get caught up with last century and get a cellphone.  I'm hoping I'll be able to monitor it better when I'm in the shop with the result of being more easy to get in touch with.  So, if you want to call, you are welcome to use the regular number or give me a reason to try and figure out how to answer the new cell at (907) 242-2024
Back From Fishing! August 1, 2011
Returned home from fishing early this morning and its now back to the shop! The salmon/halibut charter went pretty well.  There is now a fair amount of both types of fish in our freezer; hopefully enough to get through the winter.  I was able to meet up with a customer/friend who lives in Seward and dropped off a rod while I was there.  I also, surprisingly, ran into a good friend from Anchorage that I hadn't seen in a couple months.  He was on a charter with the same company we went with but was on a different boat.  That meeting turned into dinner on Saturday followed by an invite to fish Clear Creek up off of the Talkeetna River.

We left the city at 8am and were on the river by about 11.  We motored our river boat up the Talkeetna to Clear Creek then up that as far as we could, maybe a mile as the river was running pretty low, then hiked upriver from there fishing behind the spawning kings for rainbow, dollies and grayling.  We all caught a good number of rainbows and dollies, mostly ranging in the 18-24" range with at least two that were noticeably bigger that got away.  We brought in a few grayling, one a whopping 19".  The hike was long and brutal over varying sized loose river rocks which made for some unusual aches and pains.  We saw tons of bear sign and one little black bear who wasn't very interested in us three passing by.  The weather was varied with most of the day a drizzly grey though we did get rained on hard for a few hours, which included some pretty serious thunder and lightning which is something that isn't all that common up here.  All in all, just good fishing and good friends.
Gone Fishin' July 26, 2011
I will be off the grid beginning late this evening (Tuesday) and will be returning early morning on Thursday.  I'm heading down to Seward to the salt to try for some halibut and early coho.  With any luck there will be a lingcod and a few bass on the end of the lines as well.  See you on Thursday, hopefully with a packed freezer!
Listed a New rod for sale July 22, 2011
*Update: This rod has been sold.  Thanks for the interest!
Just listed a brand new Payne 96 2/2 4wt for sale. This should be the last finished rod or blank that I expect to list before the end of the summer.  It is an amazingly fun little medium-fast 4wt for those small streams full of brookies or grayling.  I almost kept this one for myself...
Quad Tapers & Hollowing July 21, 2011
I'm finally rolling out my list of quad tapers today. The entire list is currently up and in place but I still need to finish up the descriptions and formatting.  I feel the current list is reasonably complete but I'm always happy to consider other tapers as well if you have something specific in mind that you don't see listed (a Para 15 perhaps?).

I also put together a page describing in some detail my hollowing technique.
Listed two demo rods for sale July 18, 2011
*Update : Both rods have been sold!  Thanks for the interest.
Just added a couple demo rods. Both 2/1 6wts there is a Garrison 212e and an 8'2" SH8262 Hollow Penta.  Take a look if you are interested in a couple really nice used fishing rods and a great price.
New Quad for sale & more site updates July 16, 2011
*Update: The quad listed below has been sold.  Thanks for the interest!
I just listed a 7'6" 4wt 2/2 hollow built quad for sale for $1200.  This rod is new but does exhibit a few cosmetic blemishes in the cane.  The story behind it can be read by following the link above.  It is a sweet rod so snap it up while you can!

I have been continuing to work on parts of the website.  A lot of simple clean-up and formatting work has been done and I finally have all three of the main Photo Galleries in place and updated.

Next up are the quad tapers which should be up soon after the weekend.
No Deposit Required July 1, 2011
I've dropped the requirement of putting down a $200 deposit when ordering a rod.  You can now place an order for a rod or blank and get into the queue without putting any money down.  Once I am ready to begin work on your rod I'll get in contact to confirm all details.  When the rod is finished, usually 2-4 weeks from when it is started, the entire balance for the rod will be due.  I'll take photos of the finished rod and email them to you as soon as it is complete in order to verify the rod is ready to ship.  If payment is not received within 2 weeks of the rod being completed, or other arrangements have not been made, I reserve the right to sell it to another individual.

If you already have placed a deposit, no worries, it is safe and sound and is applied towards the balance of your rod or blank.
General website updates
Next, keep an eye on the website as I'm going to be rolling out a bunch of loooong overdue updates.  So far, the Contact, Prices, Ordering and Status page have been cleaned up, reorganized and updated with current information.  Next is the Tapers page and missing Photo Galleries.
A standardized rod series and quad tapers./strong>
I am also planning to streamline the tapers page and add some 'standardized' rods.  In other words, rod 'series' that are a standard color scheme and set tapers.  There will also likely be some other textual changes and additions, specifically some details on my current new scalloping technique and last, I finally have a respectable list of Quad tapers that I want to list and get organized.

If you have any questions on any of this before I get it implemented, please don't hesitate to call or email to get in touch.
