Quadrate bamboo rods are made with four sides, all of equal size, resulting in a square cross section.  Quads were first designed and constructed in the late 1930s.

Four sided rods whose geometry tapers from a standard (square) quad shape in the butt section to a rectangular, wider-than-tall geometry in the tip section. The resulting rod dampens vibrations better and is more stable and accurate.

All two-handed rods are 3/2 construction, made with spliced joint ferrules, and can be built using either hexagonal or quadrate construction.
